English Language Arts

English Language Arts is a course in which we study what it means to be human and to live and thrive in our ever-changing world. Through the exploration of a variety of texts, students develop critical thinking and communication skills.

English 10-1/20-1/30-1

Successful completion of this stream is a requirement for most post-secondary university programs. Emphasis is on high-level critical and creative thinking, reading, and writing.

This course is also available at the IB level.

English 10-2/20-2/30-2

Successful completion of this stream fulfils the requirements for a high school diploma and prepares students for entry into some college and technical programs and the world of work. Emphasis is on personal and critical response to a variety of texts and contexts.

English Language Arts emphasizes skills and attributes essentials to all career paths including: reading, listening, viewing, speaking, writing, representing, communicating, and collaboration.

CREATIVE WRITING

Creative Writing 15-25-35

By following their writing interests and passions, students enrolled in Creative Writing & Publishing will write in a variety of specific creative writing genres. Students will build and manage their own portfolios and participate in the publishing process.

This course provides students with the opportunity to explore interests, passions and career possibilities in writing and publishing.

Students will have the opportunity to create original texts and follow editing, publishing and marketing processes using current approaches and technologies.

Students will learn through a variety of avenues which may include researching authors/publication houses, connecting with guest authors, liaising with professional writing organizations, submitting work to established publications and/or creating their own publications.
